Our Success Stories

 

  • Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Program (YEEP): Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Program was successful held at the Multi-purpose of Government Secondary School, Mararaba on the 10th August, 2013 with a total of 300 Youths in attendance. Youths living and residing at Jikwoyi, Old Karu, Nyanya, Maraba, New Karu, One Man Village, and Masaka attended the program. The program was built around the idea that youths should not just learn the concept of entrepreneurship/empowerment but should also get the chance to put it into practice. The project also teaches young people valuable and transferable life skills and core competence including effective communication, leadership, public speaking, idea development, marketing & advertising and financial management. Through the Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Program (YEEP) we have met the Millennium Development Goals 1 which is to Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger.

 

  • Project HELP Initiative: Youth Initiative for Sustainable Human Development in Africa (YiSHDA) provided a Scholarship to Young Miss Blessing Danladi a Primary 3 Pupil at ECWA Academy, Aku Village, Mararaba, Nasarawa State and whose Mother is a Widow as part of the Project HELP Initiative. The aim of the Initiative is to chart the pathway for the less privileged children in our communities to access quality education without the anxiety of school needs. The sponsorship covers School Uniform, Text Books, School Fees, Stationeries, School Bags, School Shoes, and Lunch Box.Through the Scholarship we have met Goal 2 of Millennium Development Goals on Universal Primary Education.

  • 2013 International Day of the Girl Child (IGD): The fulfillment of girls’ right to education is first and foremost an obligation and very important. There is also overwhelming evidence that girls’ education, especially at the secondary level, is a powerful transformative force for societies and girls themselves. Also in a bid to chart a cause for a revolutionary change in the way the girl child have been treated. Youth Initiative for Sustainable Human Development in Africa (YiSHDA) organized a one day event to commemorate the 2013 International Day of the Girl Child with the theme “Innovating for Girls Education”. The event brought together 200 Female Students from 10 Secondary Schools in the FCT. The goal of the one-day event is to provide an opportunity for the girl child to discuss key challenges they face every day as girls with the help of notable Panelists. The event also addressed four areas: Education, Health, Girls Right, and Empowerment. The event was held at the Multipurpose Hall, FCT Education Resource Centre, Wuse, Zone 7- Abuja on the 11th October, 2013. Through the Program we have met Goal 3 of the Millennium Development Goals on Promote gender equality and empower women.

  • World AIDS Day Celebration: In Partnership with Africa Health Care Foundation (AHF) a one day sensitization Campaign and A FREE HIV/AIDS Testing/Counseling was implemented as part activities to celebrate the World AIDS Day. The campaign brought together approximately 300 young people. Through the program we have met Goal 6 of the Millennium Development Goals on Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.

  • Girls Mentorship Program: Youth Initiative for Sustainable Human Development in Africa (YiSHDA) in partnership with Junior Achievement Nigeria has formally launched the Girls Mentorship Program in Nigeria. The official launching took place at the World Bank Country Office in Abuja on the 23rd June, 2014. Fifteen female students from three senior secondary schools from within Abuja made the visit to the World Bank Country Office for the official launch of Girls Mentorship Program. And For the young girls, it was a day to discover new things as they had the opportunity to meet and discuss with the World Bank Nigeria Country Director- Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly. Girls Mentorship Program is designed to help young girls get the support they need to become successful women leaders, achievers, managers, and entrepreneurs in the future. Girls will also have the opportunity to meet, discuss, share ideas with women leaders in the society who will also play the role of a mentor.

     

 

 

 

 

2014 Emerging Young Leaders Program

2014 Emerging Young Leaders Program with the theme "The Power of Transformative Youth Leadership" brought together over 250 youths converging at the Multipurpose Hall of Government Secondary School, (GSS) Mararaba, Nasarawa State on April 26, 2014.

 

The President/CEO of YiSHDA, Joseph Emmanuel Yaba in a chat disclosed that Transformative Leadership begins with self-transformation. It begins with changing how we see, hear and act on the challenges we face every day as Nigerians. Transformative Leadership is principled and focused. It is value-driven and it begins with young people. Joseph also added that through the Emerging Young Leaders Program YiSHDA will identify young men and women who will show great potential to be leaders of great influence in their families, communities and the nation at large. These young men and women will also have the opportunity to reach out and influence their world positively.

Ikenna Anyadike a Personality Development Coach with Connoisseur Consults as well as a Business Partner to Clarity4D UK in his presentation he emphasized that today's youth are going into a future where the population is projected to grow to survive, let alone succeed, youths must be prepared to build relationships and connect with others in their society. He also said that, youths need to learn and refine interpersonal skills while developing their character.

Also, in his presentation on I Choose to Lead, Victor Ogbonna said that Leadership is available to all of us.  It is a choice we make.  It doesn’t always come with a title or a big office but it is there. The more we learn about it, the more likely we are to make it a conscious part of our lives.

2014 International Girls in ICT Day

As part of ways to encourage more girls access the opportunities the ICT industry has to offer, Youth Initiative for Sustainable Human Development in Africa (YiSHDA) have successfully implemented the 2014 International Girls in ICT Day with the theme: “Promoting Girls’ Participation in ICT”.  To commemorate the day, YiSHDA implemented the following events:

 

  1. First a One-Day ICT Training for Girls and the training brought together 30 girls from 3 Science Secondary School in the FCT. The training was centered on “How to build a Blog site with WordPress”. The Training was held on May 27, 2014.  

  2. Secondly, an Open-Day Event took place on May 28th 2014 and the Open-Day Event brought together 250 Girls from 5 Science Secondary School in the FCT. The idea is to create a conducive environment where Girls can relax, be inspired and encouraged to use ICT and build their career in the ICT field. The Open-Day Event also brought together facilitators from various educational and ICT institutes.

 

It is common sayings that, no nation can grow beyond the education of its people. Women folk are more in number than their men folk in any society; it is, therefore, obvious that the training of the girl- child toward ICT is of paramount. The girls are also challenged with the mind set to be focused in setting benchmark standards in ICT.

Holiday Computer Lesson for Girls

 

Youth Initiative for Sustainable Human Development in Africa (YiSHDA) in partnership with Teenage Empowerment Missions (TEM) is currently providing 5 weeks ICT Training and Capacity Building for 15 Young Teenager Girls at Mararaba in Nasarawa State of Nigeria.

 

The President/CEO of Youth Initiative for Sustainable Human Development in Africa (YiSHDA), Joseph Emmanuel Yaba said the training will equip young girls in Mararaba, Nasarawa State of Nigeria with necessary skills to become computer uses. Through the training, girls will also be encouraged to use computers and build their career in the ICT field. The Training will cover basic Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and use of the Internet.

Information and Communication Technology today plays a vital role in bringing about desired change in every sector of life. Our aim is to use communication technology to create opportunities for growth and sustainability in the society.
